GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Part of Interstate 85 was shut down Friday afternoon due to a wreck involving an overturned tractor-trailer and a Department of Safety Motor Carrier Compliance Department Officer.
The wreck happened around 2 p.m. in the southbound lanes of the interstate right before the Lawrenceville Suwanee Exit in Gwinnett County.
The Georgia State Patrol said an officer was trying to stop motorcycle that was driving recklessly.
“The preliminary investigation shows that the MCCD Officer impacted with a tractor trailer in the fourth lane from the concrete median. The trailer overturned and caught fire,” GSP said in an email to Channel 2 Action News.
GSP said the two drivers had minor injuries.
Gwinnett County police said traffic was back moving along I-85 shortly before 6 p.m.
