GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Channel 2 Action News received tips from viewers about an earthquake that shook towns near Lake Lanier late Thursday night.
The earthquake startled a couple of Buford. In a video sent to Channel 2 Action News, you can hear a loud bang as the ground shook.

Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Brian Monahan confirmed with the US Geological Survey that a 2.5 magnitude earthquake was recorded at 11:15 p.m. near Buford.
Most earthquakes less than 3.0 magnitude are typically not felt. Monahan said this one, however, was a bit unusual because it was so shallow. The earthquake’s epicenter was just 2.5 miles below the surface. Shallow earthquakes, even when weak, are more likely to cause some shaking.
USGS also reported a second, smaller earthquake at 1:30 a.m. and was centered in Gwinnett County. That one had a magnitude of 2.1 and a depth of 5.3 miles.

Reports of feeling it are mainly limited to the south side of Lake Lanier.
There have not been any reports of injuries or damages following the earthquake.
