LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. — A Gwinnett County woman is recovering after being involved in a hit and run in her own driveway.
Mary Cornett was getting ready to walk her dog when she was hit by a car in the driveway of her Lawrenceville home.
Her injuries are severe. Her right leg is broken, her face is swollen and she’s covered head to toe in red and purple bruises.

“I mean it looks good now compared to what it did before,” she told Channel 2′s Audrey Washington.
Cornett says she’s in pain all over her body, but she’s thankful she survived.
“It was scary,” she said.

Around 8 p.m. on November 8, Cornett says she stepped out of her house with her dog, Peaches, in her arms when she spotted a car speeding down the street straight towards her.
“I don’t really know what to think, it all happened so fast,” she recalled.

Gwinnett County police say they are still searching for the hit and run driver, but a person of interest is in custody.
“Why would someone do this and why would you leave someone for dead, pretty much?” Cornett wonders.
Cornett says the driver never stopped and never even checked to make sure she was alive.
