GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A deadly hit and run in Hall County has left four children without a father and a family desperate to find the driver, who never stopped.

Channel 2′s Matt Johnson was in Gainesville Friday, where Brian Baker was on his way to Walmart on June 27 when someone hit and killed him on Spring Road. The 34-year-old was the father of four. The driver has still not been caught.

Johnson spoke to Baker’s mother, Rhona Evans, who said she’s desperate to find the person who killed him.

“He was a very, very loving, gentle, caring soul,” Evans said. “My heart is crushed. You took my life away from me, and I’m begging you to turn yourself in.”

It was around 9 p.m. when Baker’s family said a car hit him from behind. There isn’t a lot of room for people to walk near the busy intersection.

“He didn’t even know what hit him,” Evans said.

Despite signs to watch for people walking, Evans said more can be done to make the area safer for everyone, including installing speed bumps to slow people down.

Georgia State Patrol investigators said they have information from witnesses and surveillance video, but they’ve made no arrests. A description of the car or the driver hasn’t been released.

Baker’s mother said she plans to hang pictures of her son in the area in hopes of getting justice.

“It’s horrible people with vehicles don’t pay attention to people walking,” she said.
