Metro neighborhood says they are dealing with a trash disaster

BARROW COUNTY, Ga. — People in one local community say their trash is piling up and they want something done about it.

Neighbors sent photos to Channel 2's Justin Wilfon, showing trash bins overflowing with garbage bags because they say the trash company has not picked up their garbage for weeks on end.

It's a smelly problem in the Barrow County neighborhood.

"It's not good to have trash sitting out. The whole neighborhood smells. I mean it does," neighbor Ameila Ponder said.

Ponder said their trash company, Republic Services, sometimes goes weeks at a time without picking up their garbage.

"Lousy. Excuse me, but it's lousy," Ponder said.

Nearly 200 of them even started a Facebook group demanding better service. One neighbor made signs begging the company to pick up their trash.

Ponder said the company never offers a refund for the missed service.

"Don't charge me for something you're not doing," Ponder said.

This isn't the first time we've covered problems with this particular waste management company.

Just last week, we talked with neighbors in Walton County, who told us about the same problems there with Republic Services. A spokesperson sent us this statement:

"We have been and continue to address recent service delays and have seen significant improvements in recent weeks. Additionally, we have offered refunds to customers that were negatively impacted."

But every neighbor we spoke with say they've yet to receive any refunds and they said that stinks.

The company did not say why there have been so many problems with their service.
