GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Just as the high school football season is set to kick off, a Gwinnett County football team has to cancel its first two games because of COVID-19.
Mill Creek High School tweeted Tuesday night that the game against Parkview High School has been canceled for Friday because someone associated with the team has tested positive for the coronavirus.
The school also announced its game against Norcross next week has been called off as well.
This isn’t the first incident to happen so far this year as schools start to open. Earlier in the day, the Berkmar High School varsity football team announced 60 players and 10 coaches were in quarantine after one of the players tested positive for COVID-19.
Gwinnett County Public Schools administrators say a parent of the player called the school early Monday morning to report that the student was sick and tested positive. The school also canceled the team’s first two games of the season.
