SWAT team called to Gwinnett County apartment complex to capture murder suspect

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — The Gwinnett SWAT team was called out following a tip that murder suspect Rene Martinez was at The Landmark at Bella Vista apartments. The complex is located on Satellite Boulevard in Duluth.

Martinez was found suffering from a gunshot wound once SWAT entered the unit. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

The triple shooting that Martinez is a suspect in happened Friday at The Falls at Gwinnett Place apartments. Police were called out around 8:30pm to a report of a person shot.

The triple shooting left one man dead and two others transported to area hospitals with serious injuries.

The deceased has been identified as Omar Torres, 38. Jose Torres, 22, is still in the intensive care unit, but Erick Torres, 27, has been treated and released at this time.

Martinez is being charged with felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Police believe this shooting was domestic in nature but asks anyone with additional information to reach out to Gwinnett County police.
