GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Students and parents got a first look inside a new $85 million high school in Gwinnett County on Saturday.

Channel 2's Christian Jennings was there as officials opened the doors for a sneak peek at Buford High School.

The new school is a massive, three-building complex that looks more like a small university campus than a high school. The campus includes two gyms, a performing arts center and nearly 100 classrooms.

"It's state-of-the-art faciiites. You've got video broadcasting. You've got a performing arts center that most professional performance groups would kill for," Dr. Robert Downs, the superintendent of Buford City Schools, said.

Parents and students raved about the new campus.

"To be honest with you, this is incredible, and it's really just a picture of what this community is," parent Stephen Fountain said. "We love the building, but we love the people more."

"This is much nicer than many universities out there right now," Robert Stanon said. "They've done a very good job designing this school."

Rising senior Maggie Leland said she's excited for summer to be over because of the new building.

"Everyone is just amazed at how awesome it is," Leland said.

Officials said the campus can hold 2,000 students and they are prepared for growth.

The campus is still open for tours Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Officials also plan on a ribbon-cutting ceremony Sunday.
