GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Gwinnett County authorities are investigating a woman's death on Interstate 85 north that backed up traffic Thursday morning.
Police said the scene was in the HOV lane just south of Jimmy Carter Boulevard.
According to the medical examiner's Office, the death appears to be a suicide. Officials initially believed it was a homicide. The woman died of a gunshot wound.
Police said that there were no other people inside the car when officers arrived.

"Once we move the vehicle off the median wall, we do expect to find not only some damage as a result of hitting the wall, but there's also some evidence that there is some broken glass," said Gwinnett County Cpl. Michele Pihera. "There were thousands of vehicles passing by this car early this morning when they could have seen something."
Multiple lanes were closed due to the investigation.
