GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A man shot and killed an intruder who was trying to break into his father's car, a Gwinnett County police spokesman told Channel 2 Action News.
The incident happened on Mayfield Farms Drive in unincorporated Lawrenceville early Friday.
Police told Channel 2's Audrey Washington the homeowner's son inside the home was upstairs and heard a noise downstairs.
"He grabbed his firearm and went to investigate," officer Wilbert M. Rundles said.
The man found the intruder in one of his cars and confronted the man, police said.

“He verbally challenged the intruder,” Rundles said. “The intruder charged at the resident and the resident fired more than one shot, striking the intruder.”
He died on the scene. He was identified as 50-year-old James Brock.
It’s unclear if Brock had a gun and why he targeted the home. There is no link between Brock and the resident.
Washington spoke to the son's father, who said he's still in shock.
"My son, you know he’s being attacked, and he just defended himself and you know thank God," Russ Morton said.
While covering the story, the young man’s friend rushed to the scene after seeing one of Washington’s tweets.
"I saw you uploaded the photo and I was like, ‘Oh snap, that's actually my boy's house,’ so I came rushing down here I want to make sure he's okay, I’m hoping he's okay and everything goes well," said Arham Younus.
Criminal charges are not expected for the shooter, police said.
