Channel 2′s Tony Thomas is at the scene, where there is a large police presence as officers and K9 units search for the suspect.
The victim’s identity has not been released.
Thomas talked to Cpl. Ryan Winderweedle with Gwinnett County police about the search for the suspect.
“They described that man as a black male with dreds or short dreds, approximately 5′11”, 200 pounds, possibly wearing plaid shorts and a green shirt or no shirt at all," Winderweedle said.
Shiloh High School, Middle School and Elementary School were all placed on a soft lockdown due to police activity in the area. It was the first day back to school for some students.
Students at the high school have been released. Bus routes for the elementary and middle schools were delayed by 30 minutes. Students who normally walk home were able to stay at school until someone could pick them up.
Thomas talked to resident Joshua Dempsey, who said he heard several shots from just outside his unit at the HomeStay Suites. He said the shots were loud enough to jolt him out of bed.
“I thought it was a dream at first. When I woke up, I was trying to pinch myself and everything," Dempsey said. “It was six gunshots. I thought it was fireworks in the middle of the day.”
Dempsey said he thinks the fight was over a woman.
