Powerball makes lottery jackpot history

COBB COUNTY, Ga — Inside Heby’s Shell and Food Mart in Mableton, the man behind the glass-enclosed counter looks a little bit weary.

“It is crazy.  So crazy.  It’s beyond what we can handle,” store owner Haile said. He has owned this store on Floyd Road for more than 20 years.

“Oh, yeah.  I always come here,” Lydia Dumas said. Over the last few weeks, it seems like everybody has been coming here. The Powerball jackpot has rolled over and over and over again, and is now the largest lottery payout ever. Lydia Dumas plans on winning it. Here’s the first thing she’ll do. “Not tell my kids,” Lydia said. She’s just kidding.

Chef Shombe Jones runs the TDT Barbecue counter in the back of the store. The drawing is Saturday night, which you can watch right here on Channel 2, but the chef is already thinking about Saturday morning.

“I’ll be here bright and early.  Ha, ha!” He says business is always great, but throw in a world record jackpot, and it becomes the greatest. “Last week it was out the door all day,” the chef said.

And all the while, the man behind the glass will be here selling ticket after ticket after ticket.

“Everybody has to think,  why not me?  That’s why everybody has to play.  Somebody wins finally,” Haile said.
