GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Two men were shot, one killed, in two separate incidents on metro Atlanta interstates overnight. This is the 6th time similar incidents have happened so far this year.
Police told Channel 2′s Tom Jones that they’re getting concerned over the string of interstate shootings and fear innocent drivers could be caught in the crossfire as well.
“It’s been a crazy night,” is the way Cpl. Collin Flynn with the Gwinnett County Police Department described the night that ended with one man dead and another shot in the head.
It was around 3 a.m. Friday when Gwinnett County police say someone pulled up next to Kory Detiege’s car and opened fire on Interstate 85 south near Jimmy Carter Boulevard.
Detiege, 33, died at the hospital. The shooter got away and police say they have no motive.
“Any indication this had anything to do with people in town for the All-Star game?” Jones asked Flynn.
“At this time, we do believe that the victim in this case was in town. Whether or not it’s for the All-Star game, I can’t say,” Flynn said.

Detiege is a rapper from Houston and had just arrived in Atlanta on Thursday. His manager said he was in town for the game.
Fellow rappers wrote their condolences to Detiege on social media.
An hour before Detiege was killed, someone shot a driver in the head on Interstate 75 near Mount Zion Boulevard. That man remains in the hospital.
A witness told police two cars were trying to occupy the same lane before a shot was fired. The shooter got away.
It all adds up to six violent incidents on metro area highways this year, with 5 people being killed.
Police say it is very concerning.
“Not only can the person lose control of their car after being shot or injured by a gunshot, but also if you are shooting from a moving vehicle and there’s other moving vehicles around, you could be shot,” Flynn said.
The victim who was shot in the head in Clayton County remains in serious but stable condition.
Police in Gwinnett and Clayton counties want anyone who has information about these shootings to give them a call.
