GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Gwinnett police say a nightclub security guard arrested on a murder charge was a convicted felon and never should have had a gun in the first place.

Records show Chris Parker, 42, was convicted of rape in Liberty County 13 years ago, and because of that should have never had a gun.

Police said he was armed and working security for the Midnight Blu nightclub when a gunbattle broke out.

The victim's mother, Temika Harden, told Channel 2’s Tony Thomas the whole thing started inside when some men didn't like the color of her son’s shirt.

“They told him he had to take it off, he couldn't wear it in that club, and he don't know anything about that cause he don't deal in that,” Harden said.

The mother told Thomas that her son, Domiquo Riley, 19, just happened to be wearing a blue and white dress shirt because the family had just come from an event.

He'd gone to the Midnight Blu club Saturday night with his girlfriend, brother and stepsisters.

“He had already gotten in the car to leave, then he seen them jumping on his brother and he went to try and pull them off him and it went from there,” Harden said.

Gwinnett detectives said Riley was killed in the middle of a shootout between several people, including Parker.

Parker was booked into the Gwinnett County Jail Tuesday night.

“Do you believe that it was bullets from his gun that struck the 19-year-old?” Thomas asked Gwinnett County Police Cpl. Deon Washington.

“That's not something that we can get into specifically, but we can tell you he was related to what took place that night directly,” Washington said.

Police said they are looking into a possible gang angle.

“It's hurtful because I didn't raise my children to be that way. They never ran with that type of crowd,” Harden told Thomas.

Harden said she hopes the others involved will come forward and face charges.

“It's senseless. He just graduated high school and he never got a chance to live his life,” Harden said.

Police said Parker likely won’t be the only one arrested and that others may very well face murder charges too.
