Teen charged with vehicular homicide for crash that killed elderly couple

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A Gwinnett County teenager is facing vehicular homicide charges for a crash that killed an elderly couple.

Alen Beganovic, 17, was driving down McKendree Church Road on Saturday when police say he swerved to avoid a car sitting at a stop sign, ran that stop sign and then traveled across 5 lanes of traffic before hitting a Chevrolet carrying the couple. Police say he hit the driver’s side door sending the Chevrolet across two lanes and onto a curb.

Frankie Turner, 80, was driving the Chevrolet. She was unresponsive when police arrived. Her husband, James Turner, 83, was conscious, but seriously injured. They were both rushed to Gwinnett Medical Center. James Turner died several hours later. Frankie Turner died the next day.

Beganovic is charged with vehicular homicide, reckless driving, failure to obey stop sign and failure to maintain lane.
