GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A grand jury has indicted a woman accused of running a Craigslist scam in metro Atlanta.
Gwinnett County investigators are looking for Tanesha Robinson.
The victim, who asked to be identified as Michael, said he met Tuesday with an assistant district attorney about the case. He reached out to Channel 2 Action News for help, after a year of getting few answers.
"I'm hoping this news story will lead to her apprehension,” said Michael.
He told Channel 2’s Rikki Klaus that he needed to move out of his moldy home quickly in October 2015. He answered an ad for a sublease on Craigslist and said he met Robinson at the Eclipse Apartments on Satellite Boulevard in Duluth.
Since then, "I've been in pretty much a financial tailspin," he said.
Michael said Robinson claimed that she was moving for a job promotion.
"She asked for two months' rent in advance and a security deposit,” Michael said.
We obtained documents showing that Michael made a copy of Robinson’s ID, snapped her photo during the meeting and gave her $2,100 in cashier’s checks. Police said Robinson cashed the checks, then disappeared.
"Since then, the police have tried to no avail to search for her,” Michael said.
Police secured a warrant in February. The case is now in the hands of the district attorney’s office.
Michael advises people to learn from his experience and use extreme caution on sites like Craigslist.
Anyone with information is asked to call Gwinnett County police.
