HALL COUNTY, Ga. — Two people are in the hospital and one is dead after a shooting spree on Georgia Highway 365 in Hall County Friday.

Investigators say it may have been a sniper-style attack.

Officers from the Hall County Sheriff's Office were called to White Hall Road and Highway 365 in reference to a shooting around noon Friday.

They say a possible sniper in the woods along the highway opened fire on passing cars, hitting three of them. Two people were hit by the bullets -- a 72-year-old man, hit in the hip, and a 54-year-old man, hit in the leg. Both are expected to be OK.

“We believe it was a random act. We do know this was one shooter. That was it,” said Derreck Booth with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies believe the man parked his own car near the trees that line the road before opening fire.

“We do know the suspicious vehicle exited the wood line. When state patrol tried to stop him, he fled,” Booth said.

Troopers and deputies swarmed the area and quickly surrounded the man. Police say once surrounded, the man shot himself. He later died.

The sheriff will hold a news conference about the shooting Saturday morning at 10 a.m. We will stream it LIVE on WSBTV.com.

The roadway was blocked as deputies investigated, backing up traffic for miles.
