GAINESVILLE, Ga. — A Gainesville woman has been arrested after police say she nearly killed a 1-year-old child.

According to Gainesville Police Department, Abby Elizabeth Chosewood, 23, has been charged with felony cruelty to children and felony aggravated assault.

Police say Chosewood allegedly suffocated and/or strangled the child in February.

She was being held at the Hall County Jail and was released on bond Monday.

This is not Chosewood’s first legal issue.

Back in 2021 she pleaded guilty to three charges, including identity and financial transaction fraud.

She received two years probation for those crimes.

In her most recent charge, police say there were no nanny cams that caught the incident on camera, so they have spent months gathering information to bring those charges.

It is unthinkable and there is nothing for us to go on exactly why this did happen. This is something that we may never know - as when the child obviously is too young to tell us the truth. But obviously, Chosewood knows exactly what happened and hopefully, it’ll come out in court,” Lt. Kevin Holbrook with Gainesville police said.

Channel 2′s Michael Doudna reached out to Chosewood’s attorney, who told him “no comment.”
