Buford man arrested on child pornography charges

HALL COUNTY, Ga — A Buford man has been arrested on child pornography charges.

Agents with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office and Georgia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force searched the home of Anthony Mayer, 59, on Wednesday afternoon.

Investigators said Mayer had an image of child pornography and uploaded it to a search engine on May 28, 2022. Officials say that there’s no evidence the victim in the image was a child from the area.

Mayer is charged with one felony count of sexual exploitation of a minor.

Additional charges are possible pending the outcome of forensic processing of the electronics seized from Mayer’s residence, according to deputies.

The case began earlier this year when agents received a cybertip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Mayer was booked into the Hall County Jail, where he remains held without bond.

The case remains under investigation by HCSO and the Georgia ICAC Task Force.
