HALL COUNTY, Ga. — Gainesville police are searching for two brick-throwing burglars who busted into the Humane Society of Northeast Georgia and got away with a doghouse full of cash donations.

The burglars broke into the animal shelter early Monday. Security video shows them hauling away the doghouse-sized donation bin used to collect money for the nonprofit organization. %

“It’s always shocking to me when people steal, period, but certainly when they steal from a nonprofit,” said Executive Director Julie Edwards. “We work very hard for our donations.”

The money goes to help provide medical care, food and housing for the approximately 1,500 animals the Humane Society takes in each year. Not only is the organization out the donations, it must also pay to replace the custom window busted out by the burglars.

Edwards said the burglars didn’t steal or harm any of the animals. It appears, she said, they were interested only in the cash.

Edwards said people can make donations through their Humane Society of Northeast Georgia website.
