HALL COUNTY, Ga. — A dog that had been missing for three weeks was rescued Tuesday from the bottom of a 35-foot well in Hall County.

Two dogs, Sugar Bear and Zoey, were staying with their owner’s son while she moved from Georgia to North Carolina when a plumber accidentally let them out.

The owner and neighbors searched for the dogs for weeks.

They finally heard barking and were led to Sugar Bear, who was at the bottom of a well. Zoey turned up shortly afterward.

“She was just standing in one spot shivering,” neighbor Sheree Elliot said.

Hall County Fire Services pulled the dog out of the well. She had lost about half of her body weight, but is OK.

“It’s more than likely she’d been there for the last 2 weeks,” Capt. Zach Brackett said.

Brackett said water at the bottom of the well likely saved the dog’s life.

“You can go without food for a long time, but you can’t go without water,” he said.

Elliot said she had nearly given up hope before the dogs were found.

“I think God puts people in our lives for a reason and I hope it would be something that somebody would do if it was my dog,” she said. “It’s a miracle they’re alive and they’re home now and they’re going to be loved now more than ever.”
