GAINESVILLE, Ga. — Police say a man who barricaded himself inside a Hall County home and shot at officers has been taken into custody.

Gainesville Police said the incident started around 10 a.m. on the 200 block of Mountainview Drive. The situation prompted the evacuation of nearby houses.

Police said that a man was having a mental health crisis and threatened family members before firing a rifle multiple times at officers. Officers never fired back.
Officers were able to safely evacuate an elderly woman from the home.
The man was taken into custody just after 3 p.m.

Police said they had been called to the home multiple times, but this was the first time the man showed up with a gun.
The suspect, who was not identified, was taken into custody for a mental evaluation.
