Georgia couple arrested for murder of 5-year-old daughter who weighed just 7 pounds

HALL COUNTY, Ga. — A Georgia couple has been arrested for the murder of their 5-year-old daughter, who weighed just 7 pounds when she died at an Atlanta hospital in June.

Jerrail Maurice Mickens, 31, and Porscha Danielle Michens, 29, were arrested Tuesday morning in Hall County. Both have been charged with felony murder and first-degree cruelty to children.

Police said the couple took their daughter, Kylie L. Mickens, to a hospital in Braselton on June 7 because she was unresponsive. The child was flown to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Scottish Rite, where she died on June 8.

Due to Kylie’s condition and weight, deputies notified the Hall County Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) and Sheriff’s Office investigators. An autopsy revealed the child died of dehydration and malnutrition due to medical neglect.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation ruled the child’s death a homicide.

The couple was booked into the Hall County Jail, where they remained without bond on Tuesday afternoon. They are set to appear before a judge on Wednesday.
