Hall County deputy, father of 9 dies after testing positive for COVID-19

HALL COUNTY, Ga. — The Hall County Sheriff’s Office is mourning a beloved deputy, husband and father who died this week.

The sheriff’s office announced Lt. Brian McNair died Monday morning after he was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Sunday night.

McNair is survived by his wife Wendy and their nine children.

“The news of Lt. McNair’s passing came as a great shock to his family and his law enforcement family this morning,” Hall County Sheriff Gerald Couch said. “He will forever be remembered for his dedicated service to our country and the counties he served in Georgia. Words cannot express my desire for this community to pray for Lt. McNair’s family.”

The sheriff’s department said McNair died from a serious illness and previously confirmed that he had tested positive for COVID-19 last week.

McNair had been with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office since 2000 and worked for the Habersham County’s Sheriff Office prior to that.

McNair also served in the United States Marine Corps and Georgia National Guard.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office has set up a fund to help McNair’s family. People can make a donation at Peach State Bank & Trust off 325 Washington Street in Gainesville or mail the donation to the bank.

Checks should be made payable as “In Memory of Lt. Brian Keith McNair.”
