Hall County residents enjoy snow day as Georgia experiences winter storm

HALL COUNTY, Ga. — People in Hall County spent Friday enjoying their snow day.

Seven-year-old Maverick Sisson told Channel 2′s Eryn Rogers that he’s been waiting for years to have a snow day.

“I woke up like early, early, early, and I got to see snowflakes falling, like actually falling,” Sisson said.

While Sisson and his neighbors in Flowery Branch enjoyed sledding, snowball fights, and building snowmen, Hall County Emergency Management said they are continuing to monitor the winter weather as the system moves through the area.

Hall County EMA said Public Safety personnel and Public Works crews are moving throughout the county assisting with any issues, especially as the temperature continues to drop throughout the day and more ice accumulates.

On Friday afternoon, a representative said they had several road closures and some streets that were completely impassable. At that time, crews weren’t treating the roads, only clearing them, so emergency vehicles could travel more easily.

EMA said people need to be cautious if they are traveling downhill or on bridges and overpasses, but they really want people to stay off the road all together if possible.

“I went ahead and shopped for groceries yesterday and planned to kind of stay in for the weekend,” said Brandon Humphrey, who had the day off.

Hall County EMA is also encouraging people to sign up for their Citizens’ Alerts. People will get updates on any road closures, accidents, or potential threats.
