HALL COUNTY, Ga. — Update: Gainesville police said one person has died from this crash. Authorities said the victim was Nicole Rocaford, from Cumming.

A good Samaritan said he went car-to-car to check on the people involved in a bad multicar crash.

The crash happened at Queen City Parkway and West Ridge Road in Gainesville on Monday morning. Several people were hurt.

Police told Channel 2's Berndt Petersen the morning fog was a factor in the wreck.

Investigators say the fog was thick and that a tanker truck triggered the chain reaction crash.

Nine people were hurt. Bits and pieces of 10 cars still remain strewn along the road Monday afternoon.

Ryan Moore was about 100 yards away when he heard the sound. When he saw what happened he said he ran straight toward it.

"I made eye contact with the front passenger. I asked her if she was OK. She said, 'Yes, but my sister is stuck,'" Moore told Petersen.

Moore told Petersen that he helped as many people as he could get out of their mangled cars.

Police said a row of vehicles were waiting at the traffic light at West Ridge Road around 8 a.m. when a tanker truck hit the last car in line, triggering a chain reaction.

"Oftentimes, here in the morning, this is a busy intersection. And this morning, the dense fog was here," Gainesville police Cpl. Drew Reed said.

Several drivers and passengers were hurt, one seriously.

Several cars and trucks were damaged. Some had to be totaled.

Moore said he just wanted to get to the injured and never hesitated.

"I then came to the door and saw what was going on---and just out of pure adrenaline and gut instinct, went running toward the accident," Moore told Petersen.

No word yet on any charges will be filed in connection with the crash.
