Hall County adds 4 more schools to mask mandate list as COVID-19 cases spike

On Friday, the school system cited a “rapid spread” of COVID-19 in some schools as the reason for the mask mandates.

“Contact tracing shows very few of the cases are originating in the schools; however, this variant is behaving differently than we experienced last year,” the school wrote on Facebook.

Schools with mandatory face coverings while inside and on school buses will be:

  • Chestnut Mountain Elementary (whole school at least through 9/3/2021)
  • Davis Middle (whole school at least through 9/3/2021)
  • North Hall High (whole school at least through 9/3/2021)
  • Sardis Elementary (whole school at least through 9/3/2021)

The two schools previously announced for a mask mandate are:

  • East Hall High (whole school at least through 8/27/2021)
  • Sugar Hill Elementary (whole school at least through 8/27/2021)

The school said that parents or guardians of quarantined-close contact students may choose for their child to: Stay home for 10 consecutive days (weekend days are included) or wear face coverings for 10 consecutive days, agree to daily temperature checks at school, and remain asymptomatic.

Last week, the state of Georgia passed the milestone of having had 1,000,000 confirmed cases of the virus since the beginning of the pandemic.
