School crossing guard hit by car in wreck due to distracted driver, police say

HALL COUNTY, Ga. — A high school crossing guard directing traffic was injured on the job Tuesday afternoon and rushed to an area hospital.

Officials said security guard Ashley Parr, 21, of Gainesville, was directing traffic out of the student parking lot at North Hall High School around 3:45 p.m. when she was hit by a vehicle.

Police said Parr was directing Dakota Joy, 17, to stop when, investigators said, Joy’s Jeep was hit by an oncoming Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Lanier Dudley, 50, of Talmo.

Investigators said Dudley was distracted by his phone when he hit Joy's Jeep.

Police said the Jeep was sent spinning and hit Parr in the process, throwing her about 12-15 feet.

Parr was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where she remains in serious condition. Authorities said she was conscious when taken to the hospital.

No serious injuries were reported for the drivers of the two vehicles involved.

The Georgia State Patrol is conducting the investigation and charges are pending.
