Protesters leave downtown with little issues following 8 p.m. curfew Friday

ATLANTA — It was another fairly quiet end to a day full of peaceful protests across the city of Atlanta.

Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms issued a curfew for City of Atlanta for 8 p.m.

We had several reporters and photographers on the ground all over the city to capture how the day unfolded.

Here’s a minute-by-minute look:

8:35 p.m.

Channel 2′s Justin Wilfon says the protesters have moved out of downtown:

8:09 p.m.

Police begin to move protesters out of the area around Centennial Olympic Park:

7:47 p.m.

Members of the National Guard dance with some of the protesters in downtown:

6:50 p.m.

Channel 2′s Justin Wilfon said that for the first time tonight, protesters have started to shout at APD officers and National guard troops.

6:32 p.m.

The entire crowd of protesters downtown has taken a knee for 8 minutes and 46 seconds to honor George Floyd:

Channel 2′s Justin Wilfon was outside Centennial Olympic Park, where he said National Guard troops were making their presence known, but were standing far away from protesters. A barricade also separated law enforcement from the crowd.

Protesters have gathered peacefully outside of the City of Decatur courthouse:

The City of Atlanta has announced that they will provide free COVID-19 testing for protesters from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Chosewood Arts Complex.

5:08 p.m.

Protesters today are holding balloons in honor of Breonna Taylor, who would have celebrated her 27th birthday today:

Another group of peaceful protesters has gathered outside Centennial Olympic Park.

4:15 p.m.

Marchers are on the move through downtown Atlanta.

A small group of protesters are in front of City Hall, chanting “What’s his name? George Floyd!”

3 p.m.

Channel 2′s Richard Elliot was in downtown Atlanta, where a small group of protesters were gathered outside Centennial Olympic Park.

2 p.m.

MARTA police took a knee and remained silent for 8 minutes.

“The Marta Police Department, along with Marta CEO Jeff Parker, are observing an 8-minute moment of silence to reflect on the events that are occurring nationally, while acknowledging our commitment to continue to protect and serve without prejudice nor injustice,” officials wrote in a post on Facebook.

1 p.m.

Doctors, nurses and all other healthcare providers with white coats met to kneel for racial injustice at Emory School of Medicine at 1 p.m.

12 p.m.

Channel 2′s Steve Gehlbach was in Cobb County, where about 100 protesters, mostly KSU students, were outside a store that sells Civil War Surplus. The group gathered across from Wild Mans, which sells Confederate flags and features a mannequin with a KKK hood.

Protesters told Gehlbach they want the business shut down.

“I don’t want to see the place burn down,” Fredrick Saunders said. “I want them to stop patronizing this guy, stop giving him money, to the point where he has to shut down.”
