Family members say Truitt was a good kid and are still trying to wrap their minds around why another teen would kill him.
“As you can imagine, my family and I are beyond devastated and have more questions than answers. Of which no question or answer will bring Nasir back,” the teen’s cousin Yormica Truitt-Jordan wrote in social media posts.
“He was a good kid. He never bothered anyone. This all seems so surreal and I’m not exactly sure how things with me or my family will go back to ‘normal’.”

A GoFundMe has been set up to help Truitt’s mother Erica, who is a single mother, with her son’s funeral expenses.
“Please find it in your hearts to donate, share this post and spread positivity within our homes and into these children’s lives. This was not supposed to happen. These are babies. Our hearts are shattered in a way I’ve never thought possible,” Truitt-Jordan wrote.
Truitt’s family and friends will gather at the skate park on Saturday for a candlelight vigil. It begins at 7:30 p.m. and people are encouraged to bring white candles and balloons.
