ATLANTA — Parts of metro Atlanta saw steady rain Wednesday that caused serious flooding in some communities.
The rain started falling around 2 p.m. and continued throughout the evening, leaving some cars surrounded by water.
Interstate 20 near Capitol Avenue in Atlanta flooded, causing a major traffic backup for hours.
Channel 2 viewers sent us weather photos on social media, ranging from dark thunderclouds to flooding on Humphries Street in southwest Atlanta that showed water about 5 feet deep.

The owner of a southwest Atlanta building said his property was damaged by the excess water.
Robert Fennell pointed out the damaged drywall and mess left behind from the day's heavy rains and flooding. Fennell owns the Southern Mills Building, which houses several loft apartments and some businesses on Wells Street.
“We have a drain out here, a city drain that constantly blocks up,” Fennell said.
Fennell said the property has flooded around four times since 2006 and the city has been out several times to try to fix the problem.
“This is the worst one. As you can see, we had a foot and a half of water in here,” Fennell said. “We have tenants in here and all their stuff's ruined.”
One of those tenants, Bobby Bayard, said the water came up as high as his mattress.
“Slowly the water kept coming underneath the door and spread out throughout the whole place,” Bayard said.
