‘A heinous act’ Georgia family’s 4-year-old foster dog found shot to death at end of driveway

SAVANNAH, Ga. — An animal rescue in coastal Georgia is searching for who committed the “heinous act” of shooting and killing a family’s beloved foster dog.

A 4-year-old dog named Harvey, whose nickname was Skippy, was found shot to death at the end of a driveway off Whitfield Avenue in Savannah. The shooting happened in the middle of the day, leaving his foster family devastated.

“No foster should ever have to go through this or worry about this,” Victoria Diaz Carlson told WJCL-TV.

Carlson said Harvey escaped the yard around 11 a.m. Thirty minutes later, they got a call about his body being found.

“We just could not believe the fact that someone could do this to a dog who was so friendly.”

The Carlson family said they had been fostering Harvey for the past six months. One Love Family animal rescue had taken in the hound mix after he was found living in the woods for months. The rescue mourns the life that was taken from Harvey.

“He was killed by a broadside shot that was likely placed from a distance, as a thought out act to kill. How could anyone commit such a heinous act? How could someone think it is rightful to take it upon themselves to shoot and kill a pet, clearly well taken care of, wearing an orange collar and identification tag. Within 30 mins of being out, Harvey lost his life.”

The rescue filed a police report with the Chatham County police department. It also asks for anyone who had camera footage from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. in the neighborhood to reach out to its co-founder Karrie Bulski at karrie@oneloveanimalrescue.com or investigators.

“Neighbors have been so helpful with providing statements and support. We are asking everyone to share our story in hopes to protect others. We will get justice for Harvey Elwood and a sense of security for our community.”
