The deputy was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and released from the hospital.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office later announced that the incident is still under investigation, but confirmed that inmates Dontavious Young and William Latham, who attacked the deputy, would be facing additional charges for aggravated assault of a correctional officer, obstructing a law enforcement officer, aggravated battery and unauthorized possession of weapons by inmates.

“We will not tolerate this type of behavior, particularly a cowardly act of violence against staff. I will ensure that these inmates are charged and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” Scandrett said in a statement.
