HENRY COUNTY, Ga. — Law enforcement agencies across the south Metro, along with former NBA star and Henry County resident Shaquille O’Neal, are offering a $30,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of a man wanted for shooting a Henry County police officer Thursday night.

Henry County Police Chief Mark Amerman told Channel 2 Action News that an officer was responding to a domestic call around 6 p.m. when he was shot as he attempted to make an arrest.

Police identified the officer Saturday as Paramhans Desai, 38. Desai joined the department in 2020. He is married with two small children and remains in critical condition. He is a veteran officer who also worked for the Georgia Department of Corrections and DeKalb County Police.

Henry County police have identified the suspect as 22-year-old Jordan Jackson.

Amerman adds that Jackson is “armed and dangerous” and has not been captured. He fled the scene in a white 2016 Honda Civic with license plate RXF0384. Later, police said the suspect may possibly be traveling in a white 2021 Dodge Ram with Georgia tag CRX4743, but the Dodge was later recovered.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has issued a Blue Alert for Jackson as he has still not been located. A “Blue Alert” is issued for a suspect wanted for injuring or killing a police officer.

“Whatever hole you’re in, I assure you we’re coming to find you and will place you in custody,” Henry County Sheriff Reginald Scandrett said at a Friday afternoon news conference.

Sources told Channel 2 Action News that Desai is in critical condition in the ICU but is stable.

Police said the incident happened off of Key’s Ferry Road in McDonough.

Neighbors seemed stunned by what had happened.

“This is just beyond anything we ever imagined happening out here,” said Brandi Harvey, who lives around the corner from the home. “It’s a quiet neighborhood, a quiet area. We’ve never had anything like this happen.”

Channel 2 Action News reached out to two women outside the home where the shooting happened, but they declined an interview.

Anyone with information on Jackson’s whereabouts should call 911 or Henry County police at 770-957-9121. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers Atlanta by calling them at 800-597-TIPS (8477) or on the GBI website.
