STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. — A babysitter is charged with manslaughter after the death of a 2-month-old girl in Henry County.
Neighbors told Channel 2’s Lori Wilson that the people who live in the home off Spring Street in Stockbridge had just recently moved in. So they were shocked to see the crime tape and to learn what happened.
Police told Wilson they had been called to the rental home off Spring and Rock Quarry streets several times in the last few weeks. Investigators said Thursday morning they got a call for a baby not breathing.
“I just saw the firetruck, the ambulance, all come down they went inside,” neighbor James Smith told Wilson.
“The sirens, when it first happened and everything, woke me up out of bed,” James Smith Jr. said.
Police say they were called out to the home around 9 a.m. and when they found the 2-month-old baby girl. She was already dead.

“They said it was a baby, and I don't know what happened to it. They said it quit breathing,” Smith said.
While police aren't saying much about the circumstances of the baby's death, they have charged Keanna Dover, 34, with manslaughter and reckless behavior.
She was babysitting the child and is now in the custody of Henry County authorities.
"Currently the nature of the death, it appears that it's going to be suspicious," said Capt. Mike Ireland, with the Henry County Police Department.
“They took a stretcher when they came out. I thought it was one of the boys on the stretcher, but evidently it wasn't,” Smith told Wilson.
“It's just hard to believe a baby,” Smith Jr. said.
Police told Wilson they have located the baby's mother and are now interviewing her. More charges could be forthcoming in the girl's death.
