McDonough woman sentenced to life in prison for murdering her boyfriend in her apartment

MCDONOUGH, Ga. — A McDonough woman will spend the rest of her life in prison after being convicted of killing her boyfriend in 2019.

Aliyah Hopkins, now 26, was found guilty by a Henry County jury of shooting and killing her boyfriend, 18-year-old Lonnie Green, during an argument in September 2019 inside her apartment at Trees of Avalon in McDonough.

Investigators said Hopkins shot Green in the chest with a handgun inside her apartment’s living room. He was pronounced dead shortly later.

She was convicted of felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

The jury returned a guilty verdict after just four hours of deliberation. A judge then handed down a life sentence.
