MCDONOUGH, Ga. — Paramedics took two people to the hospital after a shootout at a Henry County apartment complex.
Detectives are now trying to sort out what happened moments before the gunfire.
Neighbors told Channel 2's Nefertiti Jaquez they came home to a chaotic scene.
"I didn't know what to think. My mind was blank," resident Denoyd Rozier told Jaquez.
Rozier said he heard gunshots go off outside his apartment building.
"I moved out here because I thought I wouldn't see anything like that going on anymore," Rozier said.
He told Jaquez he moved his family out of the city and to the apartment complex off Nail Road in McDonough hoping to get away from violence.

So when bullets starting flying Monday afternoon, he was left in awe.
"Nothing usually goes on around here," Rozier said.
That was until police say a male resident and a woman who was visiting the complex got into some sort of heated argument, which quickly turned into a shootout.
"She shot him and he shot her," McDonough police Detective T. Spangenberg said.
But the motive behind the shooting is still unclear.
"We don't know who's the suspect or who's the victim," Spangenberg said.
Detectives said the woman showed up to meet a man at the apartment complex but the man she exchanged gunfire with is not the man she was there to see.
“He said she was trying to rob him," Spangenberg said.
Now, police -- who spent the day combing through the scene and two cars -- have the difficult task of trying to piece together what prompted the shootout.
