Hiker dead after falling from north Georgia waterfall

DAWSON COUNTY, Ga. — A hiker was killed when he fell from a waterfall in north Georgia Sunday, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

The hiker, who has not been identified, fell from Bearden Falls in Dawson County. His body was recovered hours later by Dawson County Fire and EMS.

Bearden Falls is in the Chattahoochee National Forest and is one of multiple falls in Dawson County.

The fall was apparently accidental, according to the Times. Several agencies helped to recover the victim, including the Forsyth and Lumpkin County fire departments and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

A friend of the victim posted a warning to other hikers.

“I lost a friend in a tragic accident yesterday at Bearden Falls,” Zach Hannah wrote on Facebook. “If you don’t have the proper gear and aren’t trained PLEASE don’t climb waterfalls.”
