HOUSTON COUNTY, Ga. — The Georgia Department of Health reported the youngest COVID-19 death in the state since the start of the pandemic Monday.

New data shows that an infant less than 1 year old died of the virus in Houston County.
The child was only identified as a Hispanic boy with a chronic underlying condition. His date of death has not yet been released.
Two 1-year-olds have also died of the virus in Georgia, an boy from Cobb County with an underlying condition and a girl from Thomas County.

A total of 24 children ages 17 and younger have died across the state since the start of the pandemic.
Houston County is in central Georgia about 2 1/2 south of Atlanta. The county seat is Perry and the county’s largest city is Warner Robins.
