COBB COUNTY, Ga. — It’s a frequent target for drivers – and it’s happened again.
A beam protecting the historic covered bridge in Cobb County is undergoing repairs Tuesday after a driver hit it Monday night.
Cobb County officials said a driver hit the beam outside the Concord Road Covered Bridge – the first in nearly a year.
Crews installed the beam at the entrance to the bridge to protect it from oversized vehicles. So many trucks have hit the beam that officials installed even more protective measures, including dangling PVC pipes to warn drivers of the low clearance.
The covered bridge on Concord Road had been hit by cars at least 22 times in the last few years before the crews installed the protective measures.
