ATLANTA — A Wind Chill Advisory is in effect for Alabama and the west Metro, extending into northwest Georgia and the north Georgia mountains until 11 a.m. Tuesday and again from 7 p.m. until 10 a.m.

Another cold front will swing through Wednesday, dry, but reinforce the frigid temperatures. Morning lows will continue in the teens, near 20 degrees for the first week of 2018.

Severe Weather Team 2 is tracking the cold weather. Updated forecasts on wsbtv.com and Channel 2 Action News This Morning starting at 4:30 a.m.

On Monday, Temperatures started off in the teens for Atlanta, making it the coldest New Year’s Day in more than four decades in 1977. On that day, Atlanta hit a low of 11 degrees.

People in Hall County started off the New Year with light snow.

Video sent to Channel 2 Action News showed snowfall along I-985. You can see snow collected on car windshields, and rooftops of houses in Gainesville.

The snow fell lightly for several hours Monday morning. It was a surprise to some.

“I didn’t even expect it to be snowing today," said driver Duane Johnson.

The Hall County Sheriff's Office urged drivers to be extra careful on the roads. In a Facebook post, they said a number of 911 callers had reported icy bridges and overpasses.

Monday evening capped off with dangerously low temperatures, according to Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Brad Nitz.
