BOSTON — NBA star and Cobb County native Jaylen Brown and his family are the latest victims of thieves targeting star athletes while they are on the road.
Channel 2′s sister station Boston 25 News reports that thieves broke into the home of Brown’s mother, Mechalle Brown, on Sunday night. The Celtics were playing the Washington Wizards in Washington D.C.
“Obviously my mother’s security is of utmost importance to me and that has been compromised,” Brown told reporters on Thursday.

Wellesley police say they responded to reports of someone breaking and entering and found a window in the home broken. Two people were home at the time, but it appears nothing was stolen and no one was hurt.
“Obviously to go through that experience with people still in there, still in the crib and stuff like that, it just makes you think about some things differently,” Brown said.
Brown’s mother’s home wasn’t the only one hit. A Celtics assistant coach’s home was burglarized recently and thieves took his NBA Championship ring, according to Boston25 News.
The Boston Celtics issued the following statement to Boston25 News:
“The safety of Celtics players, families and staff is of the utmost importance to us. We are aware of the incident and are working with authorities. The team will have no further comment at this time.”
In recent months, there have been several break-ins at the homes of high-profile athletes including Kanas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, and Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Borrow, among others.
