East John Lewis Freedom Parkway NE and North Highland Avenue NE are now closed around the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library, so the Carter Center staff can prepare for the crowds expected this weekend.

The road closures are also to help with Carter’s procession from Plains, Ga. to Atlanta on Saturday morning.

The road closures will last until Tuesday at 12 p.m. after Carter finishes lying in repose at the Carter Center. The state funeral events will move to Washington D.C. where Carter will lie in state at the U.S. Capitol.

His funeral is set for Thursday at the Washington National Cathedral before the Carter family returns him to Plains for a private burial.

The public is invited to pay their respects to Carter at the Carter Center through Tuesday morning. You will be able to walk or bike and MARTA is also offering a free bus shuttle from the King Memorial Station.
