GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A Gwinnett County K9 is on his way home after being injured in a stand-off in Gwinnett County.

On May 23, K9 Kai was shot by a 18-year-old suspect in the line of duty.
Police said they responded to an aggravated domestic violence call on Pine Lane just after 10 p.m. Officials said a man threatened a woman with a handgun and ran from the scene before police arrived.
Officers found the man in a wooded area. Police said the man started shooting at officers, hitting Kai.

Kai is a 2-year-old Belgian Malinois dual-purpose (Narcotics and Patrol) K9, who has been with the department for under a year.
Luckily, the K9 deputy was released from the hospital and is stable.
The police department released photos of Kai leaving the vet and heading home.
