Around 12:23 a.m., Habersham County deputies stopped a blue Infinity on Georgia 365 southbound near Cody Road.
Officials said, as the deputy exited his patrol vehicle, the driver, Steven Kristopher Wilke, 36, of Kennesaw, drove away, initiating a chase.
The sheriff’s office said, Wilke turned around and began speeding north on Georgia 15. He then turned left onto Talmadge Drive in Hollywood and then turned right onto Old Historic 441.

At the intersection of Old Historic 441 at Ga. 15 and US 441, “he apparently wasn’t familiar with the area and continued across and crashed into the guardrail on the northbound side”, said Special Operations Lt. Travis Jarrell.
Wilke was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville for treatment. He then was arrested and booked into the Habersham County Detention Center.
The 36-year-old is charged with two counts of driving under the influence, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, driving while license suspended or revoked, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug-related objects, too fast for conditions, failure to maintain lane, failure to obey a stop sign, headlight requirements, and giving the wrong signal.
