Professors Sohyun An and Theresa Alviar-Martin say it was the tipping point for them.

“I really didn’t know what I could do. It was an overwhelming sense of hurt,” Dr. Alviar-Martin said.

In the metro Atlanta spa shootings, right on the heels of abuse related to COVID-19.

“Every day I see one case after another where Asian Americans are bullied or the scapegoat for the pandemic. I was personally hurt,” An said.

Together, they are taking action. They have been awarded a $50,000 grant to create a curriculum they hope to introduce in the state’s K-12 education.

It will tell the story of Asian American history, which they see as a game changer and a key to stopping the hate.
