ATLANTA — Move out day came early for some Georgia Tech students. Many were asked to pack up and leave because of the coronavirus outbreak.
On Sunday, Channel 2’s Audrey Washington went to the campus where she spoke to students who were heading home.
“It was very abrupt; it was very sudden,” said Georgia Tech freshman Leah Hornsey.

“Yeah, the virus is screwing everything up,” said freshman Chris Kaveney.
Georgia Tech’s president announced the college would move to distance learning amid the coronavirus outbreak.
“They’ve told us all to move out and the rest of semester will be all online,” said student Stephen Dunlap.
“Everyone is kind of doing this as it goes. There’s no playbook for this,” said parent Katie Hornsey.
Georgia Tech’s president directed students to the University System of Georgia policy.
It states in part: “Students on campus are asked to depart campus by close of business Friday, March 13, 2020, and to remain away from campus until March 29, 2020.”
“And now we have to move out, and they’ve canceled all of the classes for the rest of the week,” Hornsey said.
Hornsey said the college will refund some housing and meal plans.
Still, many students said this is not how they expected their college semester to end.
“Everyone is pretty upset because our freshman year just came to an end,” Dunlap said.
Students told Washington they are in communication with their professors and working to take their final examines online.
