DAWSON COUNTY, Ga. — The Dawson County Sheriff’s Office arrested 50-year-old Herman James Seppenfield VII Thursday in connection with the murder of 37-year-old Little League coach, Brandon Weaver.
Capt. Tony Wooten said Weaver picked up his young son from a birthday party on Nov. 22 at a home on Whitney Place in Dawsonville after the child had complained the adults were drunk and rowdy.
“The kids made a good decision to leave that residence because they felt uncomfortable,” said Wooten.
Approximately three hours later, Weaver returned to the home with a family member and a fight broke out. According to Wooten, Seppenfield fired two shots at Weaver.
“Mr. Weaver was pronounced dead on the scene shortly after officers arrived. He had been shot twice, one in the chest and one in the side.”
Weaver had been a volunteer coach with Dawson Parks and Recreation for eight years. He coached baseball, T-ball, football and basketball.
“Brandon was a big kid himself,” said Lisa Henson, director of Dawson Parks and Rec. “He was just one of those people that everybody was attracted to and the kids really latched onto him.”
One of those kids belonged to family friend Sherry Moon. Her husband built a memorial for Brandon Weaver, which now hangs behind home plate at the ball field in Rock Creek Park.
“Brandon was an absolute inspiration to all of the children that he came in contact with,” said Moon. “None of us know what happened that night and we may never. But I know he was sticking up for children and that is the bottom line, the same thing he always did.”
Seppenfield is being held in jail without bond.
