HENRY COUNTY, Ga. — Police arrested a local doctor after one of his patients accused him of sexual assault, and Channel 2 Action News confirmed the doctor is still seeing patients even after the arrest.

By law, Dr. Khalid Jalil is allowed to see patients until the outcome of the case is determined. He's licensed in three other states besides Georgia, including Alabama, Ohio, and Iowa. He didn't have any complaints or accusations in any other state outside Georgia.

When Channel 2's Tyisha Fernandes showed up at Jalil's medical office in Stockbridge on Tuesday, she saw a sign that said it was open, but as soon as office employees saw the Channel 2 van, they flipped the sign around to say the office was closed, quickly closed the blinds and locked the door.

Residents wondered why a Channel 2 Action News crew was there.

Fernandes told them police arrested Jalil a week ago and charged him with aggravated sexual battery after one of his female patients said he violated her.

Some of the accusations are too graphic to detail. Fernandes learned the patient told police she was assaulted while she was alone with the doctor in an exam room.

State medical board officials said there is always supposed to be a third person in the room during these types of exams.

Fernandes spoke with Jalil's attorney on the phone and he said it's true that there should be a third person in the room, but said sometimes there aren't enough staff members to do that. He said the doctor is innocent and more details will come out in his preliminary hearing in a couple weeks.

The attorney said he is confident that the charges will be dropped.

People who claim to know the doctor said the accusation does not fit the professional they know and love.
