Local sheriff’s office boosts starting pay as high as $75,778 to attract and retain deputies

The Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office is increasing starting salaries.

The Rockdale County Board of Commissioners approved the new pay scale.

Starting annual salaries for a certified sheriff’s deputy will range from $47,361 to $75,778. The new starting pay for certified detention deputies is from $42,952 to $68,723.

The specific starting pay depends on education, years of experience, and specialized training incentives.

The Sheriff’s Office says pay increased an average of 17.26%.

The first 58 new hires will also receive a $7,000 sign-on bonus.

The Sheriff’s office says the salary increase should help retain experienced employees and attract new qualified personnel for open positions.
